The Atlantic City Ballet

School History

The ACBT Performing Arts Academy was started in 1982 by Phyllis Papa. Ms. Papa, founder of the school, wanted to develop professional dancers in a nurturing environment where they could be immersed in the art. In 1999 Ms. Papa acquired the wonderful facility that the academy is now in. Nestled on 7.2 acres, the Academy has two studios and an Olympic pool with beautiful landscaping including a pond with live fish and a stage on the property. The facility houses the year round Academy, summer intensive and the AC Ballet International Trainee program and is a perfect place for students who are really interested in pursuing a life of dance. Since the Academy is the official school of the Atlantic City Ballet, students from the school have the opportunity to be in select productions and are given high priority for acceptance as trainees. The academy is an educational facility for dance and offers year round classes and instruction. Many former students are now in major companies around the world including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and Miami City Ballet. While others have performed on Broadway, in films, and television.
